Rotate Pages
Rotate whole doc or single pages
How to use
Purpose
Rotate a whole PDF or individual pages by 90°, 180° or 270° (clockwise or counter-clockwise), to fix scans that came out sideways or adjust for specific viewing scenarios. Rotation is lossless — file size barely changes, text and images are fully preserved. Runs locally in your browser via pdf-lib, modifying page metadata; no upload, no watermark, instant.
Steps
- Drag or pick a PDF
- Spot the misoriented pages in the thumbnail list
- Pick a mode: "Rotate whole document" or "Per-page selection"
- For whole-doc mode, click "90° CW", "90° CCW" or "180°"
- For per-page mode, set the rotation independently on each thumbnail
- The right-side preview reflects rotation live
- Confirm and click "Process"
- The output PDF downloads with "-rotated" appended to the name
FAQ
- Does rotation lose quality or fonts?
- No. Rotation only modifies the page's /Rotate metadata flag — no re-rendering, text stays selectable, images keep original resolution, file size barely changes (just a few bytes).
- Will my PDF be uploaded?
- No. pdf-lib modifies page metadata locally; the source never leaves your device.
- Can I rotate different pages by different angles?
- Yes. In "Per-page selection" mode, each page can have its own rotation. Useful for scanned compendia where a few landscape pages are mixed into a portrait document.
- Will other PDF readers respect the rotation?
- Yes. The tool sets the standard PDF /Rotate attribute; all spec-compliant readers (Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, Edge, Foxit, Preview) honor it.
- Can I rotate by arbitrary angles (e.g., 45°)?
- The PDF /Rotate flag only supports 0/90/180/270. Arbitrary angles require re-rendering the entire page as an image and re-embedding — not supported here. Consider PDF-to-Image then rotating the images instead.
Use cases
- Fix scanned contracts that came out sideways
- Rotate landscape slide PDFs to portrait for printing
- Correct an ebook with a few misoriented pages
- Batch-fix orientation on phone-shot-to-PDF documents
- Standardize orientation across archived financial scans
Tip
For hundreds of pages of scanned content, "Rotate whole document" is fastest. If only a few pages are off, "Per-page selection" gives precision without touching the rest.
