Drag thumbnails to reorder

How to use

Purpose

Rearrange page order within a PDF by dragging thumbnails. Use it to fix scans that came in the wrong order, recover from a merge gone sideways, or move the TOC to the front. Runs locally via pdf-lib; no upload, no re-rendering, no quality loss. Free, no page limit.

Steps

  1. Drag or pick a PDF
  2. Review the thumbnail grid
  3. Click and hold any thumbnail to drag it to a new position
  4. Other pages reflow automatically; the order updates live
  5. (Optional) Use the "Reverse all" button to flip the whole document
  6. (Optional) "Sort by filename" auto-orders a multi-file merge by name
  7. Confirm the new order in the preview pane
  8. Click "Process"
  9. Download the reordered PDF, suffix "-reordered"

FAQ

Is the file uploaded for reordering?
No. Dragging only modifies a front-end order array; "Process" then reassembles the PDF locally via pdf-lib — no upload at any point.
Will reordering change the file size?
Hardly. Reordering only adjusts page object references — no font or image re-embedding. The file size typically differs by just a few bytes.
Can I reverse the entire document in one click?
Yes. Top-bar "Reverse all" flips the page sequence. Useful for thick books scanned back-to-front.
Do bookmarks and page-number markers move with the pages?
Internal bookmark anchors get redirected to follow content (clicking a bookmark still lands on the right text). Printed footer page numbers (e.g., "Page 5") don't auto-update — strip them with the Page Number tool then re-add.
Can I drag multiple pages as a group (e.g., pages 5-10 together)?
Yes. Shift-click multiple thumbnails to select, then drag the group to a new position.

  • Fix scanned contracts whose pages came out shuffled
  • Tidy chapter order after a multi-file merge

  • Reverse a thick-book scan that started from the last page
  • Auto-sort a merged stack by filename for quick lookup

Tip

If the source came out wholly wrong-order, "Reverse all" or "Sort by filename" beats manual dragging. Always keep an original-file backup elsewhere before bulk reorganization.
